Description Are You Ready for a New Floral Course with Lucy Thomas to Continue Working on Painting Fast and Loose?   Join Lucy Thomas in FAST AND LOOSE THE SEQUEL, flower painting at its most loose and fun! In this sequel to her first course, Lucy will create a complete floral painting, start to finish, in a loose representational style, using the negative space technique. Whether you are brand new to painting with Lucy, or you have taken a previous course, you’ll find something new techniques to add to your painting bag of tricks. Lucy will explore more painting techniques and exercises that will enhance your floral paintings.  She will show you how to paint a few specific flowers and how to create the look of water in a clear vase.  Continue to loosen up your brushwork, as you create your beautiful, colorful paintings.  We hope to see you in class!     COURSE OBJECTIVES By the end of this course students will have an understanding of the following concepts: Produce loose, more impressionistic paintings Understand negative space painting Paint the illusion of water in a clear vase Create several different flowers in acrylic paint Use complimentary/contrasting colors effectively Use your imagination when painting flowers CLASS IS OPEN - SELF-STUDY Lifetime Access - Download All Content Cost - $69 REGISTER NOW! DESCRIPTION OF LESSONS In lesson one we will paint a fresh flower arrangement.  This lesson is divided into several segments which will show you how and when I do each flower and other elements that go into the painting. Just like in a well made flower arrangement, we will have at least three different types or categories of flowers in our painting. We will start with LINE flowers which are the tall thin type that help define the boundaries of the arrangement/painting. Then we add the FACE flowers which are the large attention getters. These are the focal point in your painting. Then the FILLER is added to give your arrangement / painting a better shape and fill in any dead spots that you don’t like. In this lesson I will show you how I paint the water in a vase as well as a few specific flowers.  This time I will tone the canvas with the color Teal. You will see how much difference a different background color can make! I use this color a lot when I know I want to emphasize the vase and water in a paintings. For me, it automatically provides a mid tone color to work with and build off of.  We will paint tulips and iris and a hydrangea in this lesson. And all will be done without a model…we will just paint them out of imagination. All three flowers are very recognizable shapes and can be good choices as you broaden your flower painting repertoire. CLASS IS OPEN - SELF-STUDY Lifetime Access - Download All Content Cost - $69 REGISTER NOW! MEET LUCY THOMAS - ARTIST/INSTRUCTOR I didn't discover my passion or ability for painting until I was almost 50. I'm a late bloomer but I catch up fast! I love flowers...painting them, arranging them, planting them, studying them and talking about them. Though painting takes up the majority of my time now, I own a small flower shop in my hometown where I can get my fresh flower fix whenever I need one. I have shown my work in galleries across the Southeast and teach art, in person, at the Huntsville Museum of Art in Huntsville, Alabama. My blended family includes my ridiculously handsome husband, my son, who lives to fish, three lively stepsons, two black cats and a one of a kind dog we affectionately call Crazy Paws. PRIVATE GROUP FOR THIS COURSE There is a private FB group for this course.    Once you are signed up for the course, you can access the FB group where only you and other students signed up for the course will have access.  Keep in mind, teachers are only active the first four weeks.  After that, some may be involved, while others are not.  We are looking forward to seeing your artwork! COURSE SUPPLIES Below is a list of the supplies I will be using in class.  However, you are always encouraged to use what you have on hand. Substrates At least 2 rectangular canvases or panels. In this class I use two traditional stretched cotton canvases. One is 24x36 the other is 20x30. I much prefer painting on a larger surface. If you would rather use something smaller, that’s fine. You can also use wood panels or other substrate if you like. Paints Golden Brand Fluid Acrylics: Dairylide Yellow Sap Green Hue Pyrole Red Light Teal Titanium White Paynes Grey Primary Yellow Dioxianine Purple Primary Magenta Green Gold Phthalo Green (blue shade) Yellow Ochre Raw Umber Ultramarine Blue Quinacridone Magenta Other Golden Fluid Acrylic colors I really like to have are: Vat Orange Quinacridone Red Cerulean Blue ;;;;;purple I use heavy body paint on a limited basis. In this class to paint the hydrangea, I will use two different “off white” heavy body colors made by Masters Touch, which is the Hobby Lobby Brand. Those colors are: Milky White Warm Grey I will also use a dark red heavy body paint for the center of a flower or two. The red paint I usually have is Alizarin Crimson but any deep red will do. In the video I have quinacridone crimson, ‘alizarin crimson, permanent maroon and pyrole red dark. I don’t usually have this many dark red, heavy bodies on hand but I just ordered all these on a whim! It isn’t necessary to have all of these. Pick one! ***I understand that you may not want to go out and buy all new paints! Keep in mind there are 1 ounce bottles of this type that will go a long way but not be too expensive. You can also use whatever paint you have as long as you are happy with the way the colors represent the flowers. However it may be harder to get the layered look that I try to create if you use all heavy body paint.  I am devoted to the way this paint works. I encourage you to at least buy a few of these and try them out. Also, feel free to mix colors versus buying specific ones. I do that myself all the time. Let’s face it, all colors are made from the primaries so make sure to have yellow, blue and red, and white. I am not saying it will be easy to mix everything but you might be surprised how well you do. Paintbrushes You will need a variety of brushes called “Flats” or “Brights.” I suggest buying the inexpensive multi packs found at craft or art stores. These packs may not be exclusively this type of brush so look for a bundle that inches 4 or 5 “Flats” or Brights.” These brushes have a straight edge across the top. You will need brushes with a width of a half inch (.5 in.) up to and inch and a half (1.5 in.) width depending on the size of your canvas. For a loose, less structured look, always use the largest brush you think you can get away with! Varnish I use a polyacrylic from the hardware store. You can also use art store brand varnishes….whichever you prefer. Optional: Posca Acrylic Paint Pens to embellish your work once it’s dry. These are completely optional but I have found them a fun way to add a few details to your work. In my opinion, Posca is the best choice for this type of marker. They have MANY different colors and several nib thicknesses to choose from. I like the “fine” tip. Other Paper Towels Water to rinse brushes Spray Bottle with Water (to spray off mistakes while the paint is still wet.) Palette or something to mix paint on (a sheet of plastic on a table works!) Easel sized to fit chosen canvas PRINT SUPPLY LIST IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON ACCESSING CLASSES AND SELLING WORK CREATED IN THIS COURSE: **Upon purchasing your course, you will be asked to create an account and go through the purchase process (even if the cost is $0 for a free course).  If you have already created an account, after purchase your course will IMMEDIATELY be available under “LOGIN” at the top right-hand of karabullockart.com. **If your course does not show up, please email us at [email protected] **Lifetime Access: When you purchase a class, you will have access to download the course videos and keep them for your personal use for life.
