It is AD 60, Judea. When Julius Vagus, an officer in the Roman army, is given an order he can’t refuse, he doesn’t know it will forever change his life. Told to arrest a controversial preacher of the Way who has been stirring up trouble in Jerusalem and the provinces, he finds himself guarding this religious man. His prisoner—a man formerly known as Saul, now going by Paul—is a radical proponent of Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified twenty-seven years earlier.
